The inaugural Community Deck Building Contest concluded late last night. We had a lot of submissions and a wide variety of decks to choose from. We want to thank everyone that submitted their decks. It’s really fun to see the ideas you all had and learn more about how you’re all thinking about the cards.
Here is a quick numbers breakdown of the submitted decks:
It looks like we have lots of Earthen and Shroud fans in the audience!
Whittling the decks down to four finalists was a difficult task for the judges. The reason it was difficult is because it appears that we have many experienced TCG players in our midst, most of which having picked up on key card functions. It’s good to see, and it gives us a preview of what could be an extremely competitive landscape when the game launches.
First Place: bawanga#6260
Parallel: Marco
Paragon: Catherine
Bawanga had this to say about their deck: “Very angry deck focusing on dominating the early game with fast/strong units, and including board control elements to help push through mid game to land 30 damage. Some 2-for-1 type cards to hopefully avoid running out of steam. Going for consistency and few situational cards.”
Second Place: aquaticgolem#5406
Parallel: Shroud
Paragon: New Dawn
Aquaticgolem said this about their deck: “This deck is my first attempt at a Shroud combo style deck. The idea is to play your 9 or 10 drop earlier in the game than turn 9 or 10. This can be achieved using Void-Touched Novice’s final ability to reduce the cost to zero or by using Reality Manipulator’s on hit effect to swap costs with something banked. The top card is always revealed so that you can play draw spells and siphon through your deck to hit one of them on top.”
Third Place: Mad Prof#1123
Parallel: Augencore
Paragon: Arak
Here is what Mad Prof said about their deck: “Jury-Rigged Juggernaut is the key to this deck. The idea is a bait and switch style of play. Bank aggressive upgrades such as Kethtrexamine and Enhanced Exoskeleton, draw cards to find the Juggernaut, bank the Juggernaut. Using Upcycled Technology and the Squad Traitor, you can replace any low power unit with, hopefully, the game ender. With Annihilate or Kill Switch, you have options to eliminate defenders to send the Juggernaut right to your opponent for a swift end. Defend with Hardlinked Pilot and Stoic Sellsword until the opportunity is right.”
Fourth place: stormtek81#3573
Parallel: Shroud
Paragon: New Dawn
Here is what stormtek said about their deck: “This deck is Shroud Control combo deck with Banish theme. Basically the gameplay should be banishing as many cards to your Singularity and one shot kill opponent with Bora and/or The Void Unleashed once enough are there. There is a lot of card draw to get to the important cards early, board clears to keep the board clean and use few units (synergizing with banish theme) to try to chip some damage to lower the win condition or to trade with enemy units.”
Marco vs. Shroud
The Marco Aggro deck was too much for the mighty Shroud. Early card draw was key for the Marcolian and they made quick work doing tons of damage. Although Marco were victorious the Shroud use of Void Crystal was done well and Beseech the Gifted to draw more consistent Erasures and Demo was smart.
Augencore vs. Shroud
The Augencore deck played out just the way Mad Prof predicted. Banking Graphene Batteries and Keth early paid off late game. Early game board wipes from Shroud with Demolecularize and removal with Annihilate made it tough sledding for the Augencore. That said, the win con of Jury-Rigged Juggernaut doing massive damage to face was achieved with a massive blow of 22 damage in the final turn.
This was an intense set of battles, and they won’t be the last…
Thanks again to everyone that participated in the Deck Submission Competition, and congratulations to the winners! We’re looking forward to doing this again with you all soon.
